The Australian Government introduced changes to the Subclass 500 Student Visa program over the Christmas/New Year period to align the application process for onshore and offshore Student visa applicants.

From 1 January 2025, the Department of Home Affairs are no longer accepting Letters of Offer from individuals applying in Australia for a Student visa. Instead, onshore applicants must provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) at time of application.

Any applications filed after 1 January 2025 without a CoE by onshore applicants will be invalid. Importantly, Bridging Visas cannot be granted for an invalid substantive visa application.

Visa applications filed before 1 January 2025 with only a Letter of Offer from an Education Provider will be unaffected.

Please note there is no change to the alternative forms of evidence of intended course of study for Foreign Affairs, Defence or secondary exchange students.
